• When a brainless government comes up with a half-arsed idea

And blurts it out in the budget of all things... without actually doing the work first to see if it is feasible.

So typical of this government, but not surprising when you look at what it is made of: union hacks, academics, polsci grads and teachers. They have no idea how to run a government, having topped out at a small school fair.

Only fools and left wing lackeys.

As has been pointed out in the past. Labour couldn't organise a piss up in a winery with help from the defence forces. Labour and common sense don't ever get together!

This sentence fills me with dread.

"Nash said what was really needed was a government-backed portal
with an age verification system in it and for the government to
hold that data which could then be used by every council in the
    country."

Just what we need more centralised Government.

We already have that database - but it is a combination of a number of different databases. BDMs would be the major part.

But the problem is essentially not one for government to resolve - it
is up to those selling tickets to determine how to do that - they are
already able to give different rates for Gold Card holders at certain
times; they already are able to determine eligibility for child rates.
Plenty of bars are able to use ID to determine if a person can be
served alcohol - when age limits changed it was not government that
    was expected to solve it.

The problem with the Nats is that they claim they believe in local
authorities looking after themselves, but at the first sign of any
temporary issue they want to blame the government - the reality is
that they are silly whingers for the sake of it - and notably they
    never have any solutions themselves.

Interesting comment from someone who supports a government that has failed to deliver every single major promise made since 2017.
Just more baseless Rich80105 political rhetoric.

You can't blame Rich for his delusion Labours failures aren't because Labour is incapable, like Rich80105, of following ideas to a logical conclusion! It's pretty typical of those who've been failed by Labours Mental Health initiatives...

We already have that database - but it is a combination of a number of >different databases. BDMs would be the major part.

But the problem is essentially not one for government to resolve

It is a problem created by provisions in the Budget - pure and simple
for public transport subsidies. The article JohnO clearly outlines
    this.

    - it
is up to those selling tickets to determine how to do that - they are
already able to give different rates for Gold Card holders at certain
times; they already are able to determine eligibility for child rates.
Plenty of bars are able to use ID to determine if a person can be
served alcohol - when age limits changed it was not government that
    was expected to solve it.

All irrelevant to the fact that a new subsidy has been introduced with age-qualification requirements that at least one regional authority
(as a public transport operator) cannot meet.

The problem with the Nats is that they claim they believe in local >authorities looking after themselves, but at the first sign of any
temporary issue they want to blame the government - the reality is

It seems to be news to you Rich - that the budget, which has caused
this problem, was not a National party initiative. As usual you have
to introduce an anti-National rant to distract from a blunder entirely
    of Labour's making.
