“successfully exceeding industry and government projections”, Transport Minister Michael Wood said, after it was reviewed a year into its full implementation.

So the scheme has been so sucessful that they need to increase the
    sudsidies.

Notice how these changes are giving subsidies to the rich while taking from
    the workers.

Note also that the increase for imported second hand vehicles will mean that
we will have many used up batteries from the cars to recyle or more likely
    land fill.

Thanks to this waste of money we can expect power cuts this winter...
Current technology doesn't let us recycle the batteries and chance of it in the foreseeable future! They're like solar panels and wind turbine blades, only good for landfill when they crap out!

    https://www.rnz.co.nz/news/national/489083/ev-rebates-changed-fees-on-high-emitting-vehicles-raised-under-clean-car-discount-rethink

"Wood said the increase to used vehicle rebates would encourage more
lower and middle income New Zealanders to buy a lower emission car.
The rebate paid out for plug-in hybrids would be reduced.
And a special discount would be introduced for low emission disability vehicles.
Fees charged to buyers of high emissions vehicles would increase, and
the threshold for what qualified as a high emissions vehicle would
reduce from 192g of CO2 per kilometre to 150g.
"To fund the changes to make it easier for New Zealanders to purchase
cleaner imports, we're adjusting charges on high emissions vehicles,
    " Wood said.
"This includes vehicles like utes which are amongst the highest emitting vehicles within our fleet.""

This is the same idiot Government and Minister, that subsidises Fossil
    fuels.
If you really wanted incentivise the shift to EV's then the high cost of
petrol ( due to high taxes ) would be a suitable method, and those
high taxes could be used to fix the wrecked transport infrastructure, as intended. and avoids the money go around of extra taxes for subsidies.

Yet another total fail from this demented government.

Increasing the price of fuel won't help the poor get into EVs and as
we've seen in Auckland the fuel taxes have gone where??
