    Just another reason to wait.
There is a lot to learn before I buy an EV, that is for sure.

It says damaged batteries are piling up but I doubt that. They're still valuable. The usual route for a degraded battery is home solar storage. If Tesla Model Y batteries are not removable then that's a serious flaw.

It depends on the money side of things. Also safety.

The second hand use in solar instalations works of the principle that a 2/3 capacity battery will be useful. Having a battery pack with some/many
damaged cells will require checking and replacement of the damaged cells.
This cost money and who is going to insusre a battery with is more likely to start a fire? Not the risk adverse insurance comapany(s).

This is not the case as reported. They are saying the batteries are scratched or "in a minor collision".

damaged cells will require checking and replacement of the damaged cells. This cost money and who is going to insusre a battery with is more likely to start a fire? Not the risk adverse insurance comapany(s).

Not noticed anything on my home insurance policy about solar or batteries. As long as it is installed by a licenced electrician I don't see the problem. They are not allowed in a car because a car can get into collisions. A Tesla powerwall is about 14KWh
so a 50% 40KWh Leaf battery has the same storage. If it is half the price it is well worth it.
