• Will Nashy be sacked?

From JohnO@21:1/5 to All on Tue Mar 14 16:28:04 2023
Stuart Nash has admitted contacting the Police Commissioner to complain about a court sentence and urge the police to appeal. This is clearly not allowed. Ministers may not attempt to influence operational matters.
    So, will Chippie sack him?
Probably not. Labour don't really do accountability. Plus who would they replace him with?
Compare to Maurice Williamson who was sacked by John Key for talking to the PC about a case. The Nats have standards. Labour not so much.

Depends on just how desperate Chippy is to win later this year :)

It's OK Johno, someobody will spin this as a beat-up. Almost certainly. Maharey, Nash and what was the other nincompoop recently? So many of them who knowingly break the rules (after all they don't apply to the rule makers do they?), I can't be bothered looking it up.

So... Nashy has resigned his Police portfolio but keeps the others! Apparently you can act inappropriately but you only get sacked from that portfolio. Strange ideas about acceptabile behaviour in Labour. Maurice Williamson resigned *all* his portfolios
for less. Because ministers are accountable in National.

Yes he has resigned as Police Minister for breaking the rules required
of all Ministers. He clearly has not done enough to piss the PM off
so he remains in Cabinet. Other PMs of both parties would routinely
have sacked him from Cabinet (opening a slot for someone else to be
elevated). Perhaps there is not someone in the current Labour caucus
    worthy enough of such elevation.

They need Nash as he's one of the very few that can appeal to the "Kiwi bloke" voter block. Virually all the rest are all union/teacher/rainbow/feminist/activist types.
