Of course it would make a difference - we would not have to pay
millions to overseas countries for missing our targets!. Stupid boy .

You are the stupid one. If you really believe the debate is about money or an outdated agreement and not climate change, then you have proven yourself culpable. Guilty of spinning.

No - why would you think that? I certainly have not said that.

Your reason for going along with all this nonsense is not because it

paying money to some foreign third party.

What is that if it isn't a political motive?

An honest reply for once in Richie's pointless life :)

paying money to some foreign third party.

What is that if it isn't a political motive?
It is one of the reasons why we as a country want to do the right
thing - but yes self-interest is there as well. Complying with an
international agreement however makes sense for other reasons -
including that being honest with ourselves and others; being true to
our word, demonstrating that compliance is possible (setting an
example). Some years ago our government adopted a slogan of "100%
Clean, Green", which was at the time clearly a cynical political goal
of increasing tourism - and the government soon found that their
dishonesty did not give the results they wanted. We have a
responsibility to our country in terms of reducing pollution
(including plastics in the ocean), but also to trade partners to be
seen to live up to our commitments - as a small trading nation we rely
on good will. Once National had signed us up, our duty has been clear
    - that so little has been done is regrettable, but politics reflect
reality - the cynical courting of the ''freedumb'' protestors about
climate change and other issues is costing National votes, and is
boosting the popularity of the Green Party, who are I believe taking
votes from Labour. Labour will be aware of this, but currently they
have to divert a lot of attention to recovery from Cyclone Gabrielle.

So yes politics, including international relationships, are an issue,
there are very few issues that do not involve politics, but in
relation to our climate change commitments, we should be able to work
to provide an example of how it can be done and be seen to contribute
to the world positively; despite cynical politicking from some writing
to this group or pursuing destructive political ideas that would
reduce our ability to fulfil our commitments. Our scientists (employed
by the government) are working to seek ways of reducing emissions from
farms - despite some in the farming sector doing their best to ignore
the goals we have already agreed for issues such as effluent disposal
    and clean water standards.

The whole world has to do this, or do nothing. CO2 without borders,
    methane also.

So that includes Presidents Xi and Putin both doing their share in not
only capping current emission increases but actually reducing them?
Good luck with that one, let alone getting the reductions actually
    needed.

on good will.

    A simpler version from ChatGPT

In short, there are many reasons why it makes sense for our country to
comply with international agreements to reduce pollution and address
climate change. Not only does it show that we are honest and true to
our word, but it also sets an example for others and helps to maintain
good relationships with our trading partners.

    While politics can be a
complicating factor, it's important to focus on working towards our
commitments and finding ways to reduce emissions, even in sectors like
farming where some individuals may be resistant to change. Ultimately,
taking action on climate change is important for the future of our
    country and the world.

Of course it would make a difference - we would not have to pay
millions to overseas countries for missing our targets!. Stupid boy .
    . .

Really - to which countries and where are they on the list of CO2
    polluters?

The plan is for the polluters to pay the fines to the lower socio economic countries so that they can go green for their power supply.

No - why would you think that? I certainly have not said that.

Your reason for going along with all this nonsense is not because it >>will make a positive difference to the climate, but so NZ can avoid >>paying money to some foreign third party.

What is that if it isn't a political motive?
It is one of the reasons why we as a country want to do the right
thing - but yes self-interest is there as well. Complying with an international agreement however makes sense for other reasons -
including that being honest with ourselves and others; being true to
our word, demonstrating that compliance is possible (setting an
example). Some years ago our government adopted a slogan of "100%
Clean, Green", which was at the time clearly a cynical political goal
of increasing tourism - and the government soon found that their dishonesty did not give the results they wanted. We have a
responsibility to our country in terms of reducing pollution
(including plastics in the ocean), but also to trade partners to be
seen to live up to our commitments - as a small trading nation we rely
on good will. Once National had signed us up, our duty has been clear
