A long time ago I set up a google account. I've just tried to access it
and it won't let me unless I provide a mobile phone number so they can
send me a SMS as part of their dual-authentication process.
The problem is that the friendly customer-focussed telcos here in New
Zealand have chosen not to provide any mobile coverage for me and my
neighbours so we can't send or receive SMS. This introduces an
increasing number of problems and this is yet another one.
I've searched the web but can't find a solution. I think there are
devious methods to set up a new account without a phone number, but not
getting back into an existing account
