• [Q] Easy free, permanent filehosting sites?

From BungleBob@21:1/5 to All on Sat Jan 30 16:11:40 2021
    Hi,

I've got a three largish PDF files that I need to host on a server
somewhere because they are too big to keep on my small website space.
The biggest PDF is about 20MB. (The PDFs are our own creations for a
    non-profit organisation.)

Does anyone have any suggestion for a good filehosting site that is:

    a. free,
    b. permanent,
and c. extremely easy to use for the visitors (a direct link
to the PDF without going through any adverts, sign-up
    screens, or third-party download screens)?

I know you tend to get what you pay for, but surely there must be something.

    Thanks

    Bungle Bob

Have you seen if eg Dropbox/Goole Drive can do this. Load the file and then share with who you want? Just a thought. You should be able to get a direct link to the file(s).

Some PDFs are big and fat and can be reduced in size, if they have not
    already had this treatment.

I have done that with Google Drive <https://drive.google.com/>

Upload the file to Google Drive.
In Google Drive, set the file as shared so everyone on the Internet can *view* the file.
In Google Drive, get the link to the file.
Every file you share on Google Drive has a unique Google Drive File ID.
If the link to view the file looks like this:

then this will be the direct download link:

Google Drive gives you up to 15 GB of storage for free.
