Depending on the newsreader, all crossposting can
be kill-filed by excluding any post with a comma in
    the Newsgroups line.

    Does Thunderbird support blocking commas?

No but there is a way to block posts that include a given newsgroup
    in their distribution.

That would certainly help. How can I block soc.culture.israel on T.bird?
Many of the spam posts are cross-posted there.

does not work for me. i will stick with blocking the senders.

In my version of Tbird, I have to add the filter for newsgroups, then the actual name of the group.

How do you people live with newsreaders that don't have kill files with full utility? I've got certain Usenet sites blocked based on the Path header.

We and the newsreader do fine, thank you.

More flexibility is better than less flexibility.

If you are using the trn newsreader as you say you are, you have full flexibility. I've yet to come across a trn properly installed this century
that actually works without incessant crashing and losing posts by marking
them read when they were falsely reported "unavailable". Of course,
you could be using a different newsreader and just including a line saying you're using trn.
