• [Thunderbird] old bug in the unread messages count

From pehache@21:1/5 to All on Wed Jan 19 09:14:53 2022
    Hello,

When using the "Kill sub-thread" feature, the articles that continu to
arrive in the sub-thread are not displayed (as expected), but they are
still counted in the unread messages count. As a consequence the whole
thread (and in turn the group) is marked as containing unread messages,
even if the messages are hidden in killed sub-threads.

This makes the "Kill sub-thread" fetaure almost useless.

This bug has been listed for 14 years (!): https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=448876

The Mozilla developers were thinking that newgroups were not a priority
anyway (actually this bug also affects the emails, but the KSB feature
is hardly used for emails). Since then, Thunderbird left Mozilla, so
it's maybe worth remaining the developers about the bug...

One way to do that is to leave a message on the page describing the bug
and/or voting for the bug. In both cases one has to register on bugzilla.

    Thanks
