    Hello,

my access is exclusively on mobile. I use NewsTap for that and was
wondering if the absence of a server side search function is intentional of
the client. Or is how Usenet was designed.

Question arises because I would prefer not to submit questions for which answers exist already in old feeds. Without having to, slowly, download all
    of them first.

    Thanks for sharing.

I am not an NNTP expert, but I only know the possibility to search
    locally.
You can also use public archives like Google Groups or narkive.com to
search the group, even 20 year old articles can be found.

    Simply use

site:narkive.com search term in Google, Bing etc.

This is most useful. Thank you. Surprised didn’t come up in results when searched about.
