• Walkthrough to set an NNTP peer using innfeed

    From =?UTF-8?Q?Julien_=c3=89LIE?=@21:1/5 to All on Thu Jan 13 23:15:30 2022
    Hi all,

    Following the recent discussions here, I've been working these last days
    on making a video to explain how to set up a new NNTP peer with INN.

    This walkthrough features a common setup using innfeed, with:
    - an overview of NNTP peering architecture with InterNetNews;
    - the most useful parameters of incoming.conf, newsfeeds and innfeed.conf;
    - concrete examples of configuration;
    - a live demonstration on my own news server;
    - basic checks to ensure the configuration works.

    Here is the link:
    https://youtu.be/71ENBZTL0YY

    I hope it will be useful for those who discover INN.

    30 years after its release, let's now experiment video tutorials :-)

    Please tell your remarks about the format, if it is really
    understandable (I am not a native English speaker), if you had expected something else, what should be improved, etc.

    This subject is a tough one to explain, with a lot of things to say.
    Other walkthroughs should normally be shorter!

    I have in mind the topics you mentioned in recent discussions (like the
    storage method to choose, setting TLS in nnrpd, the global architecture
    of INN...) and also videos about terminology (injecting agent, header
    field body, accepted/refused/rejected, moderation, etc.) and more
    technical live examples of all NNTP commands with their response codes.
    Yeah, an ambitious program... Let's see how far I'll get!

    Thanks for your feedback on that first video!

    c'est vrai que je n'ai jamais aimé les vidéos, trop difficile de les
    suivre en les mettant en oeuvre, trop de temps perdu... mais plein de
    gens aiment ça, donc oui, merci.

    c'est vrai que l'accent est horrible, mais c'est pas grave :-). faudrait
    la doubler en français :-)) et ça nous permet de mettre un visage sur
    ton nom, c'est toujours plus sympa :-)

    merci

    sorry, I missed the fact than this forum is English (I often write to
    Julien in french elsewhere)

    In english:

    It's true I don't like videos, too difficult to follow when trying to
    apply what it says, too much time lost on parts one already know, but
    many people like them, so yes, thanks :-)

    The accent is really horrible, but who cares? the video allows to see
    your face, it's always more friendly :-)

    thanks

    for me, what would be of the most interest is to have the images that
    made the video.

    Sure, I can make them, but you have probably them already.

    Specially the left part, that gives a pretty interesting summary :-)

    thanks

    Bonjour Jean-Daniel,

    Specially the left part, that gives a pretty interesting summary :-)

    Maybe our man pages could have an "IN A NUTSHELL" section at their top,
    before the detailed description, and contain the sort of thing present
    in the left part of the video. That is to say what the file is for (in
    1 sentence), what are the most used parameters, and an example for the
    most common configuration case.

    It should satisfy readers :-)
