  • How to secure VPS to run news server?

    Please post advice on tools, utils, methods for securing a VPS to run a
    news server.

    VPS will likely be either Debian or FreeBSD. I am leaning toward Debian.

    Just set up your NNTP software in the VPS.

    I setup a dedicated account for running nntpd and have iptables and
    ip6tables setup to just allow me to login to the box and 119 is open
    for all but secured using INN's security features.

    Basically, you'd secure it just like any other server really.

    Be sure to backup your configs to a remote system whenever they change.
