• Setting up PyClean

From mg@21:1/5 to All on Tue Mar 16 02:33:55 2021
    Hi-

I've been running a news server (INN 2.6.4) with local groups for a few
weeks. I'm interested in setting up peering for access to some
(text) groups, and I'd like make sure my setup is ready for that. I
feel comfortable configuring INN to set up the actual peer connections,
but I'd like to set up PyClean first and I'm having trouble finding
    information on in.

I'll be serving to a small group of users that are all (curently)
    somewhat personally known to me.

I found both Steve Crook's and Doug Letough's fork on github. How do
the two differ? The latter has more documentation, but I'm not sure how
    the two differ functionally.

Also, are there other packages I should consider installing?

Send me an email when you're ready to peer. I'm happy to help.

Sorry, I don't use PyClean, so I can't help you with that.

About the only thing that I care about is that you are not a source of
spam posts. So as long as you're not allowing anonymous posting from
the Internet, you are probably fine.

You might consider Cleanfeed. Though it and PyClean do largely the same
    thing.

I do not know how Doug Letough's fork differs from Steve Crook's
original PyClean. I suggest to ask Doug Letough :-)

    I'm running Steve Crook's implementation.

I see that INSTALL is pretty detailed in Doug Letough's fork. Just
follow its installation steps with the implementation you prefer.

Incidentally, the Debian inn2 package now has Python support by default (INSTALL needs being updated about that).

Also, are there other packages I should consider installing?

You may set up processing control messages (to update the newsgroups
list of hierarchies), Cancel-Lock and NoCeM.

I will install it on my new news server (raspberry pi4).
At this time, pyclean doesn't work (fresh install of INN 2.6.4 on a Debian/Raspbian bullseye).

Like Julien said just ask him.

There is also the old cleanfeed project which is working fine : <https://github.com/crooks/cleanfeed>
