There are these fuckheads who try to waste everybody's time by posting seemingly serious enquiries through paganini whilst feigning anonymity.

Is paganini still being abused by them?
Didn't the operator do something against it?

How pathetic do you have to be to pretend to be anonymous? You aren't
even the real seamus. It's sad.

    NNTP server operators,

Please answer these questions (anonymously is ok).

Where will you use results of this survey?

Anyway, here are my answers (nothing secret).

    1. How many NNTP servers do you operate?

    One.

    2. How many of these are Usenet peers?

    One.

    3. How many of these are private servers?

Zero, but I have an unfeeded, local hierarchy.

    4. How many private NNTP nodes or networks do you know about?

    A few.

    5. Why do you operate NNTP server(s)?

To keep the Usenet running and accessible, mainly to users in my country (Poland). My server started as a small project for me and my friends and
now, after more and more servers are closing down, it's the most popular
one in Poland (I have daily stats).

    6. Which NNTP server software package(s) do you operate?

    inn

    7. How long ago did you first operate a NNTP server?

    Around 2001-2002.

    8. What benefit do you find with the NNTP protocol?

Just a simple protocol to do what it's supposed to be doing.

    9. What benefit do you find with Usenet?

Proper threading, no censorship, very convenient newsreaders, smarter than average users.

    10. What pet peeves might you have with NNTP, Usenet, or the softwares
    or protocols?

There's no good support for embedded binaries. There's MIME, but it's not
a good etiquette to post it, it's removed by filters and article limits,
and some newsreaders can't handle it. The protocol isn't inherently
text-only (and there are binary groups), but most groups and
configurations generally are. Which made perfect sense 25 years ago.

    11. What features or capabilities might you wish to see added to NNTP?

I can't think of any. Maybe better search.

    12. Which newsreader software(s) do you use?

    tin

    13. If any, over which privacy or anonymity networks do you run NNTP?

None, my server is not anonymous and was never meant to be.

    14. Which NNTP to web browser front end(s), if any, do you operate?

None, there's no need to. I only have a convenient way on my www to get
article via message-id from my server.

    15. Please provide any information about NNTP or Usenet or related
tools and software that you consider useful, interesting, or important.

    Not applicable, I think.
