• Live Mail 2012 question

From =?iso-8859-1?B?SORnYXI=?=@21:1/5 to All on Mon Jun 12 14:47:09 2017
I use Live Mail 2012 with Windows 10 and it works quite well.
In the left hand pane there is a "Storage folders" category, with a folder called "Recovered items".
Whenever I log on to my favorite News Group, it fills up with recovered
files, which are merely places and message I have viewed. When about 20 or
so of them have accumulated, I delete them one by one, and then I also have
to empty the Deleted Item folder of the same messages.
What is the purpose of the Recovered folder and can I simply disable it.
There is no help file, built in or anywhere else that I could find.

    Thanks,

    Sam Hagen

Messages in the numerically dated subfolders in the Recovery folders are usually the result of failed indexing that occurs due to connectivity,
closing WLM prior to downloading messages or indexing completion, or corruption in the message store.

The primary purpose of the Recovery folder is not central to newsgroups but email sending and retrieval allowing one to recover the message if not
    indexed in the proper location.

There is no way to disable it. Even if deleted in WLM or the storage
location navigable by File(Windows) Explorer - WLM will recreate the folder due to under-the-hood code.

One can toggle off/on the Storage folders(WLM 12 ribbon menu/View tab/Layout section). Toggling Off will only hide it but not prevent its functionality.

The Storage folder and its subfolders serves multiple purposes.
    - Sent Items retains newsgroup sent messages
    - Deleted Items holds anything deleted in the Storage folders
    - Location for importing messages
    - Location for archiving messages (data in the folder is not impacted by removal of email accounts)

Correct, there is no WLM12 Help file. Additionally, support for WLM ceased quite some time ago. If you are dependent upon its use, it would be wise if not already done to have the full installer file. Unfortunately, that file
is no longer available from MSFT. It can be founded on other 3rd party
sites though caution downloading anything from 3rd party sites is recommended.

*** Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately, Live Mail is the only
Email client that has the " Remove Formatting" functionality, which
strips all those annoying indents and >>> marks from forwarded
Emails and News Group messages. Seem that every time Microsoft
"improves" a product, a lot of very convenient stuff goes the way
of the Dodo. Outlook Express was my favorite in functionality and
ease of use and the person who allowed it to be discontinued
    should be .....

    Thanks ...

lol...OE had its fair share of user support having been included since the release of Internet Explorer 4.

OE's development declined in 2004 and formally ended in 2006. Incidentally, Vista's included Windows Mail ceased at the same time.

WLM's primary purpose was synchronization with Hotmail type
accounts(Hotmail, Live, Msn.com) for email, contacts and calendar.
    - It's design intent composition format was html even though carryover
code for plain text composition and reading was included.
