With all the posting about WLM no longer connecting to outlook.com I

However I just received an email about changes to terms of use and
privacy to both my Hotmail accounts.

Checking WLM these are set up as HTML connections, so not POP3 or IMAP4.

    So what is going on?

Well, over the last few weeks WLM has finally failed to pick up email for
    my Hotmail accounts.

I have just reconfigured to use IMAP and it is working (sort of) in that I
can see the folders (although part of the time it refuses to let me).

    I used this page

    <https://www.howto-outlook.com/howto/accountsettings.htm#outlookcom-imap>

for the server details and that seemed to be O.K. apart from one small
error - it said "Outgoing server (SMTP): 587 (if using SSL: 465)" which
should say "if NOT using SSL: 465".

There do seem to be major performance issues when connecting; is anyone
else seeing this (that is, if anyone else is using WLM and IMAP for Hotmail accounts)?

    Cheers

    Hey Dave.
I switched to IMAP too. But I've been using, through WLM, IMAP and Deltasync
in parallel since several month. I should say from the moment IMAP settings where available.
As far as I can see, I've had performance issues downloading messages with IMAP, at the beginning.
Now, it's almost as fast as all my other email accounts accessing IMAP
    servers (yahoo, gmail)

Maybe, you have too many message headers to refresh and WLM possibly
download it all prior to display it in the folder?
This why I choose to sync headers only. I just wanna check which messages I should read first. Don't want to be forced waiting.

IMAP performance for Outlook.com type accounts(Outlook/Live/Hotmail/Msn.com)
in WLM has been sporadic for quite some time though after account migration from the old server to new Office 365 server you should not be seeing a degradation but an improvement.

Depending upon the size of your message store(while using DeltaSync -
mirrored locally and online), WLM could take some time to index if the
quantity of messages and folders are substantial.
    - all Outlook.com type accounts will be migrated and hosted on the new
    backend server

If previously using DeltaSync and the account was migrated, DeltaSync is not supported on the new backend Office 365 server.

To determine if the account was migrated, logon at outlook.com with the
account username and password. After logon, if it says 'Outlook Mail' above
the web Inbox, the account was migrated (for WLM your only choices are IMAP
or POP3, the latter, after migration, now requires POP3 to be enabled in the account's web UI settings.)
