• Thunderbird crashing when importing *.vcf file

From Cruz, Jaime@21:1/5 to All on Wed Mar 3 19:59:07 2021
This is strange. Whenever I import a VCF file into my address book, the
import completes, but then Thunderbird just shuts completely down like I
hit the "Close" button. No error messages and when I restart it
    everything seems fine.

This doesn't happen if I import an LDIF file into my address book. Has
anyone else seen this behavior? Running the latest version of
    Thunderbird on Ubuntu Linux 20.04.2LTS

    Nope, haven't seen it.

I tried importing a vcf exported from the Android Contacts app into TB
87.0b2 on Linux and it worked OK.

This unconfirmed bug was recent - but it didn't shut down. <https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1661523>

I see from this 2-yr old bug that TB 'only understands vcf version 1' -
this my no longer be true though. <https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1528785>
(The one I tested was v2.1

Doesn't seem to be the same thing. The VCF file was created by
exporting the address list built by the CardBook extension from my
Google Contacts. I then tried importing that VCF file into Thunderbird.
The address book was created, but then Thunderbird shut down. Happens
every time. I can subsequently export and import the address book
without issue; it's just the initial VCF file created by Cardbook that
    seems to trigger this.

    And the vcf version is?

Cardbook has a support forum; you could enquire there.

TB shouldn't crash, of course, though crashing /after/ importing your
contacts OK is not so bad ;)

Address books is getting a rewrite soon, including vCard v4: <https://developer.thunderbird.net/planning/roadmap-1>
