In Thunderbird's standard user interface, there is a button called
"Get Messages" for the toolbar. The first option in this button's
drop-down menu is called "Get all new messages".
I would like a button with the "Get all new messages" feature that
activates all my email and news accounts with one click.
The feature itself is already in Thunderbird...
I miss an update of that plugin as well (there's always a bunch of
frustrations and time consuming fixes after each update of TB in my
experience), but I'm curious what you mean when you say "the feature
itself is already in Thunderbird".
You mean it's built-in but not used?

I like to have a button on the toolbar that does 'Shift+F5' after
clicking it.

What does it do differently than clicking Get Messages > Get All New
Messages from the Mail Toolbar? Only provide a button to save a step?
Don't need it.

What happens if you just click on the "Get Messages" button rather
than dropping down the list and selecting either "Get All New
Messages" or one of the accounts listed? I thought just clicking on
the button did a the same thing as selecting "Get All New Messages".
Is that not correct?

Clicking Get Messages > Get All New Messages gets messages for all accounts.
I just set up the accounts to poll at different intervals and upon startup.
