I don't know if you remember me or not but we had a long thread some
time ago about setting the UserAgent string in Firefox.

I have been using FF 52.9 ESR for a long time now, and thought I
would be forever. Unfortunately, even by spoofing the UserAgent, I am
finding more and more things for which I have to resort to Chrome.
Therefore, I am strongly considering biting the bullet and installing
    the latest version of Firefox.

Since I greatly respect your opinions, I was wondering if you would
be able to take the time to help me with configuring it, by sharing
your knowledge, and the settings you use to take the "rough edges" off
the "improved" Firefox? I know a lot of things have actually been
improved over the older versions, but there are some things that I
would really find hard to live without, The controlling of the
behavior of tabs by Tab Mix Plus being the primary one.

So, I would greatly appreciate any and all "About:Config" or
"user.js" tricks that you might have acquired along the way, that
would make the new version of FF look and act as much like 52.9 ESR
with Tab Mix Plus, PrefBar and Classic Theme Restorer as possible.

This Newsgroup was practically orphaned by Mozilla before Easter this
year and not many people still look at it.
Have you considered Waterfox or Palemoon? Both are FF forks driven by
people who disliked the way FF was going, I believe they also get
security updates. Look for them with the search engine of your choice
(or look for Mayayana the same way).

Alternatively, Jetjock, you could try asking your question in the new
Firefox *UseNet* group which is probably alt.comp.software.firefox, I
    think. ;-)

A lot of the FF regulars have probably migrated there.

Nice to hear from again, Daniel. I did just that, but posted here
also "just in case". No response from him yet. I'm surprised that
this group is still even working since it was supposed to have been
    shut down.

I still use Firefox 52 for several sites. I have a profile that is used,
most of the time, with javascript disabled; it has a "permanent" window
just for Twitter, and another one just for Facebook (even though i keep
these windows, i use them little... i kind of isolated it); a profile
for everything that needs javascript to work, and does not make FF52
crash (crashing is rare). I have a few extensions installed in both
profiles. A special one is one to turn on/off js with a button on addres
bar. For things that do not work well in this Firefox, i have been very
happy using Vivaldi browser. One big focus of it is in privacy. Another
one is the hability to configure the most we can think of. It is based
on Chromium, as you probably know, i guess. So, every Chrome extension
can be set up in it too.
