FF wants me to update. I bollixed that by removing update.exe etc, but
it still keeps asking to download the update. Which config setting turns
it off?
Thanks,

I came across some instructions today, they are for Linux but the
general principles cover Windows as well. https://linuxreviews.org/HOWTO_Make_Mozilla_Firefox_Stop_Nagging_You_About_Updates_And_Other_Annoying_Idiocy
In order to adapt the instructions to fit Windows, https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/customizing-firefox-using-policiesjson tells you where you need to place your policies.json file and the other
link says what it should look like.
Hope that helps.

Thanks for the links.
I begrudgingly updated my ESR browser one release (still a couple behind current) and saw this nag was included in the /upgrade,/ for no extra
charge!
All the usual tweaks didn't make it go away.
This file goes into a directory called distribution within the Firefox installation directory.

I hardly ever use Windows (or Firefox under Windows) but I tested the policies.json mechanism (under Linux) and it worked. The obvious
annoyance under Windows is the line
This file goes into a directory called distribution within the Firefox installation directory.
which means you will have to keep your policies file somewhere else and
copy it over after each Firefox update. Not a problem with Linux,
there's another place you can put it and that one is untouched by
installs / updates.
