I remember visiting Lake Tahoe in the 1980's and noticed there were no freeways in the area- Highway 50 was routed along Emerald bay Road and Lake Tahoe Boulevard. I once thought a 4-to-8 lane U.S. 50 freeway would be built
in the area within maybe ten or twenty years, skirting the southeastern edge
of South Lake Tahoe, going behind the casinos, and meeting with the original roadway just past Kingsbury Grade.
Over three decades later, this freeway is still in the planning stages, without even a single foot built. I wonder why.
