interesting, sort of looks like an E-4 front end...most people have no idea of the number of trainsets and models of Skinkansen and think only of
the 0 series cars. are any of those even left in service, I thought they pulled em years ago.??

Yes, there are still a few of the original 0 series sets soldiering on in the west of Japan. I think they have about two more years before they are all gone.
They are being refitted with newer seats and repainted in a smart new paint scheme. These sets are about 25 years old, but they don't look too bad for a
40-year-old design! There is a photo of one like this on the page below. http://shinkansen.s24.xrea.com/west/0/
I'm hoping to travel west later this summer to stock up on photos of the new
    livery for my website.
The original 0 series will be gone in two or three year, for sure. And
200 series, which looks like 0 series in that they have "round nose,"
too, in the Tohoku and Joetsu shinkansen may be gone in a few year,
too. They are replacing with E4 series and E2-1000 series. So the
original "round-nose" style shinkansen will disappear .
Furthermore, the 100 series, whose maximam speed is 220km/h, is going
to disappear in this fall, maybe October.

Exactly the same shall apply to E4 bi-level Shinkansen sets in 2021.
