Joseph H. Boardman, Amtrak’s second-longest-serving president and
CEO, has died. Boardman, 70, suffered a stroke while vacationing
with his wife and family in Florida on March 5 and passed away
early this morning, Amtrak announced.
During Mr. Boardman’s tenure at Amtrak, ridership grew by more
than a million passengers annually in 2010, 2011 and 2012. Trains
were added, and new cars were ordered to replace aging fleets.
