• Hiring a handyman

From Stan Brown@21:1/5 to All on Wed Dec 6 13:44:44 2023
Usually I can get some idea of an answer from the IRS website, but
this time I couldn't make head or tail of the requirements for
    issuing forms 1099.

I'm going to hire(*) a handyman this month, and I need to know under
what circumstances (if any) I must issue a 1099-NEC or 1099-MISC
showing how much I paid him.

In case it matters, handymanning is a side gig for him; he also has a
    regular full-time job in landscaping.

(*) Not as an employee, just some odd jobs around my house.

Forms 1099-NEC and 1099-MISC are for "trade or business
reporting only. . . . only when payments are made in the
course of your trade or business." For work on your home you
do not issue a 1099. (The quote is from the 1099-MISC and
    1099-NEC instructions.)

Thanks, Bob. I don't know I missed that.
