I'm doing my nephew's tax return which is entirely straightforward
(all he has is a W-2) except for one thing:
* Nephew is 25
* Nephew is NOT a full-time student
* Nephew is NOT anyone's qualifying relative (fails the gross
income test) so nobody is claiming nephew as a dependent.
* Nephew is covered under a healthcare marketplace plan
that's in his father's name.
I initially said nephew was not in a marketplace plan since
the policy isn't in his own name and he's not paying for it.
But when I efiled the return it was rejected because of
Rule F8962-070 (nephew is in the IRS's database of people
who have a marketplace plan).
From what I can tell I have to fill out Form 8952 for him to
resolve this. But nephew didn't get a 1095-A, though
presumably his father did. Can I just have him get a copy
of 1095-A from his father and enter the info from that? But
won't that be problematic because presumably father will
be putting 1095-A info on *his* own return? Or will he have
to paper file in this situation?
Also, while not related to the 2022 return, nephew will need
to get a plan completely in his own name once he turns 26
in 2023, right?
Thanks!
