There's probably no harm in filing the 706, and doing so starts the SOL. However, if you think the clearance letter is automatic, the rules changed in 2021. Now you must pay a $67 fee to receive a closing letter. See https://www.irs.gov/businesses/small-

You are using Google Groups so it might not be possible. However, you
can use a news-client such Mozilla Thunderbird and configure it to
download this entire newsgroup or a handful of messages to start with
and from there you can either save the message on to your machine as eml
file or you can email the message to your email account.

If you want further info about how to setup Thunderbird then you can
    post your query on:

    <news://paganini.bofh.team/alt.comp.software.thunderbird>

Unfortunately, you'll need some news-client on your machine for the
above link to work. Thunderbird Newsgroup is not available on Google
Groups because Mozilla killed it off to save money!!.

Thank you and all others giving suggestions on how to get a copy. I triy to keep the softwares on my PC to a minimum.

In the past, I can save a message by clicking on the 3 verticle dots on the right edge of each message, then click on "show raw message"; and I then save that raw message in eml and import it into my email client. The last time I did this was in 5/2022.
Then something changed and that option is now greyed out.

Anyway, I checked the Subscribed button after my original message, and indirectly get a copy of the reply onto my PC.

Find the Message-ID of whichever "this reply" you're talking about,
go to <http://al.howardknight.net/>, paste it into the box, and click
Search. You'll get the article, including all headers.

You can then use the normal methods for saving a Web page, such as
Ctrl+P and selecting Print to PDF or similar (if available), or
right-clicking and selecting Save Page As.

If you're talking about Ira Smilovitz's article in this thread, the
message-ID, including the brackets that the Web page requires, is <4f7c7214-0ddf-4675-9ef7-90ad187e69b6n@googlegroups.com>

I use Windows Live Mail on my Windows-based PC, which works reasonably well
for accessing newsgroups like this. If the goal is just to capture the
content of the message or thread, you could copy it all to your clipboard
and then paste it into a mail message that you send to yourself or paste
into a Word document or whatever.
