• Get payment info from IRS?

From PJ@21:1/5 to All on Tue Feb 23 01:50:04 2016
Hi, I paid my 4th qtr 2015 estimated taxes for federal and NY on
12/31/2015. I always have the Post Office agent hand postmark both
letters, so I know the proper postmark is there.

Problem is NY is saying they got it on 1/13/2016. I can see that in the
online system NY has and I can deal with them regarding that.

The thing is, I want to know what date the IRS thinks I made that federal
2015 4th qtr estimated payment. Does anyone know how I would go about
finding that out? Just call one of the 800 #'s?

    Regards, PJ

Good question. You can look at the date your bank posted the check to your account. I just looked at mine and it was posted on Jan 19 (I mailed it Jan 6). The IRS is supposed to go by the postmark, but who knows what they do? I'm going to assume they got
mine by the deadline of Jan 15. I found the following script online that says you can call them.

Hi, I'm Maria, and I work for the IRS.
Are you wondering if we received your payment?
    Here's how to find out.
If you made your payment by phone or online through the Electronic Federal Tax Payment System or EFTPS, like many businesses and self-employed taxpayers do, you can check your payment status by accessing your EFTPS account.
You can do that by going to EFTPS.gov
Otherwise, if you made your payment using another method, call us.
We can check on the status of your payment or if it's missing, help you locate it.
Just call the toll-free number shown at the top of your IRS notice or bill. For more information, go to IRS.gov.
