They're fucking destructive varmints and need to be killed. I'd like
to watch one of them blow up from the coke. That would be fun to see.-
Yep, mean.
Why not just kill them outright by shooting them rather then have them
die a slow lingering death.
That's not what happens. A seed farmer I know told me that you can hit a racoon with a shotgun and sometimes not kill them. He said that a little pie plate with coke and rat poison would be far more humane...they take 3 steps and die. A gunshot woundcan be torture for the animal, and you probably won't get a chance to finish the job.

I had a co-worker (way, way back when I spent time
where others wanted me and paid me to show up)
who had a pretty fair size, and obviously strong,
fast, and skillful dog, who would regularly kill
racoons that would wander into her yard.
I thought WOW! I would not want any of my animals
messing with one of them. We had dug out ponds
in our back yard, and were trying to raise
goldfish, schubunkin, koi etc. I kept thinking
if I just got rid of one, maybe two more, the
problem would be over. 37 racoons later, I
finally realized they were thick and could
reproduce faster than any fish.
I have a real problem with raccoons around this farm.
I have tried shooting them, but I'm not the best shot for starters and
they move fast. Plus I cant carry a rifle with me 24/7.
I cant use poison because I have outdoor cats.
Someone told me to just put some coke in a bowl and the coons will
drink it, and it will kill them. I really doubt this, but I'm
asking.....
I asked the guy if it would kill cats too, and he said no, because
cats can burp and coons cant.
This all sounds pretty goofy to me. After all, coke is a food, so how
can it kill coons?
Anyone know about this?

I've always preferred to just drop the whole thing into a horse trough
with a suitable weight on top for a few minutes. Cheaper than a bullet,
and zero chance of either missing or shooting through the beast and
damaging the trap.

been calm enough to get an absolutely certain shot into it - All the
rest have been about like "Taz" from the looney-tunes)

Also, it took several shots with a 22 to kill it.. so I don't think hunting for them is a good idea at all.

Oh, and one more thing... I realized that I was "feeding" something with the rat poison I was putting out long before the attack. So, no, rat poison does not kill raccoons. Please don't put rat poison out because cats could get it. Please don't harm cats. As far as coons I can understand resorting to poison, but some poisons do not kill them because coons are so darn tough. I you cover the back of the trap with limbs, tarps,
