Farmers in south central Nebraska are starting to plant corn.

The vast majority of it is #2 field corn which goes into livestock feed and ethanol. The ethanol is a byproduct in a sense. The feed value of what's left after the ethanol is removed is unchanged.
Quite a bit of the corn in this area is seed corn. It is a special type of corn. It's picked in the ear and processed at seed corn plants. Farmers don't keep seed from their own fields to plant the next year's crop.
