In the last few years I've received increasing numbers of machine
generated calls from people trying to sell me bridges and self-licking
ice cream cones or inquire about my consumption of Wheaties.

So. If, in the first 300 milliseconds I don't hear a voice
that I can (later?) identify as human I hang up. And I don't
give a shit what you gotta say and if you waste my time I'm
gonna waste your business, whatever it is.

Impossible to block now since they all randomize numbers.

I used to post on 800 Notes but some asshole "BigA" started accusing me of lying and marking my posts for moderation so nobody could see them. I
quit contributing to them and post to the do not call site. Suspect they
are getting paid off by desperate robocallers.

You can set up personalized prompts where the service checks to see if
the caller is an actual human y monitoring their response, and you can
white- and black-list callers as you wish as well. There are a bunch of different robots from which to choose, each with their own responses and behaviors. And you get to listen to the recordings of telemarketers
talking to the robot, resulting in some hilarious utterly recordings.
    It's a lot of fun! 🙂

Before using this service, I had changed my number a few times trying to
get away from telemarketers. However, the last time I changed my number,
the unfortunate number I chose as a replacement got even more calls than
the previous one. So I looked for more effective methods and resolutions
and found this service. And I'm really glad I did. It works beautifully.

When I first started using this service, I was regularly receiving up to
5 telemarketing calls a day. Now I get one maybe every few *months*, if
that. Even though it's relatively cheap, I'm considering cancelling the service now that I get so few unsolicited calls. Recommended!

Forgot to mention: I am not affiliated with this service, despite my
Usenet handle, and I have nothing to gain by recommending it other than
the pleasure of knowing others may find it useful and more telemarketers
will be a little more frustrated. 🤣

    Full Quote Intentional

This is all completely OT in this group.

Our national provider Swisscom offers very effective spam-filters and a
couple of technical features to supreass spam and telemarketers.

In the first place we do not answer calls of numbers which do not
identifiy with names which means they are not in our system phone book
with roughly 600 numbers. We also do not answer calls from foreign
countries if the number is not known. Callers that really want to talk
to us are diverted to the combox after 30 seconds of ringing. They can
leave us a message. Telemarketers hang up befor this timespan.

Because of these measures telemarketing has become very unattaractive on landlines and even other forms of unwanted calls have stopped almost completely. On the webinterface we can check who called or tried to call
    and adjust the filters.

Most of the voice traffic happens on our iphones anway to close the
circle. On average 10-15 calls on the landline not more btw including telemarketers.
