• Viewing mail headers on an iPhone

From bob prohaska@21:1/5 to All on Fri Apr 7 19:01:21 2023
Is it possible, when looking at mail on an iPhone, to view
the mail headers? The mail arrived via Yahoo and was being
viewed (I think) using the Mail app on the iPhone.

I asked that the mail be forwarded to me so I could view it
using mutt, which makes display of headers very simple, but
neither headers nor any URLs were apparent after forwarding.

It seemed clear the email was a phishing attempt, but I'm
still curious. I use neither Yahoo nor my iPhone for mail,
and so wasn't able to help much.

    Thanks for reading,

    bob prohaska

that's up to the mail app you're using, on any platform.

    that's odd.

From Apple Mail on iPhone I don't see a way to check the headers. Odd omission. That said I don't use my phone for e-mail very much.

I do occasionally examine headers from Mail on my Mac - with occasional
being on the order of 5 times per year ... maybe.

The only two possibilities are the Mail client on the iPhone
or maybe Safari. Most likely the Mail client.

I should have clarified a bit. There were headers, but only
from the person who did the forwarding to me, nothing remained
of previous hops. It did seem odd that the attachments, even
those in HTML, didn't contain any of the obvious links in the
    original.

I suspect they simply never got around to adding the feature, and there
isn't much demand for it among people who use the Apple Mail app.

I do occasionally examine headers from Mail on my Mac - with

It's an infrequent activity for me as well, and as a software engineer I consider myself a power user. Most casual users don't need this feature,
but for those who do there are plenty of mail clients on iOS that do
allow you to view headers, including the Proton Mail app which is what
    I've used for a while.

Apparently you cannot view headers in the Mail app. This issue has
been brought up numerous times which can be researched on the internet
and the only answer is to make a suggestion to Apple.

I think you misunderstood Bob's comment, which is about whether mail
headers can be viewed on *iOS* in apps other than Apple's Mail app. Or
maybe you are purposely ignoring what he actually said (*wink* *wink*).
As Bob commented, Troll Boy loves to jump into threads to claim
something "can't be done on iOS" when in actuality, those things can be
done. In this case, mail headers most certainly can be viewed in
    third-party apps in iOS:
