There is a big difference between guns and fentanyl. Either way,
limiting it doesn't do much good. I'm not suggesting to make it readily available, but people will get guns or drugs by any illegal means if
    they want them.

    Examine UK/Australia

May 31, 2022 -- The US has 23 times the rate of firearm homicide seen
    in Australia.

    or

    USA

How has the number of U.S. gun deaths changed over time?

The 45,222 total gun deaths in 2020 were by far the most on record, representing a 14% increase from the year before, a 25% increase from
five years earlier and a 43% increase from a decade prior.

I doubt this phenomenon only affected the US. It's a combination of the lock-downs plus mental health issues... which might have affected the US
    worse than many other areas.

Missing from the analogy is the NRA and gun lobby, whose vice-grip of
American politicians determines the outcome. America would be
well-served by a policy that gives clarity and transparency to the
question: who bought this Congressperson and for how much?

That Congressperson's talking points then probably start to make a lot
of sense. Many of these idiots are almost certainly beholden to
corporate gun interests. What the people say or want is then
    irrelevent.

45222 gun deaths in the US in 2020, 333m population = 13.6 per 100k population Roughly 50% are homicides, so 6.8 per 100k

35 homicides by shooting in England and Wales in 2020/21, 60m population
    = 0.058 per 100k

    The figure for 2019/20 was 30, for 2018/19 32, for 2017/18 27.
With those small numbers it's not clear that is statistically significant.

Both US and UK were subject to lockdowns. I can't really comment on the difference in mental health services.
