As I explained above, pro-Bolsonaro insurrectionists CHEERED when
soldiers arrived at the scene, believing they were about to join their
    side...

    ...but were soon arrested instead.

Really upsetting to see the symbols of Brazilian democracy and law and
order being vandalized today. January 8 is Brazil's January 6. Not
even on the calendar were Bolsonaro fanatics capable of much
    originality.

    Two observations

    1) Brazilian leaders of Congress are not present

So unlike US the lives of Brazilian Congressional leaders are not in
danger, nor is the transition of power which has already taken place
    in Brazil

    2) Jan 6 upset enough law abiding, democratic Americans - including
yes many Republicans - that it backfired on Trump & accelerated
... his decline. Conservative movement remains strong but shifted to
more "normal" seeming DeSantis. Similar dynamic was already apparent
in Brazil, Bolsonaro in exile in Florida

Political scientists have a name for what's happening in Brazil:
"authoritarian learning." It's when autocratic playbooks spread across
borders. Trump taught the world how to do January 6th. Brazil won't be
    the last one.

It's not that Trump invented the concept of storming government
buildings, but rather that the diffusion of such tactics can become
more frequent, particularly after high profile, visible cases inspire
others to adopt that tactic rather than another one.

Anyone who dons themselves a "Trump supporter" after that show is
nothing more than a cult member.

Trump: "I love you all, you're all very special to me"... just, wow.
