French inventor, M. Constantini, in 1906 with his motorized roller
skates:
M. Constantini, a French inventor, developed motorized roller skates
in 1906. These roller skates resembled and functioned like regular
ones, but with one notable difference - each skate was equipped with a 1.5-horsepower engine, a battery, a fuel tank, and an ignition system.
The engines, which were relatively small, were connected to a belt
worn around the rider's waist. The front of the belt housed the
ignition switch to control the engines, while the back of the belt
contained a fuel tank that held less than a gallon of gasoline.
Despite their innovative design, Constantini's motorized skates failed
to gain traction and never entered mass production.
