• The Jury: Murder trial

From Jeff Layman@21:1/5 to All on Mon Feb 26 08:01:27 2024
    Hopefully not OT.

For those who haven't looked at a TV guide, Channel 4 is showing an
interesting programme for four nights, starting tonight. The preview notes:

In this legal experiment, actors recreate a real-life murder trial word-for-word from the original transcripts in front of two juries made
up or ordinary people. The juries are unaware of each other. The case is
of a husband who killed his wife with a hammer but denies murder (names
    and dates have been changed).

The deliberations of each jury is followed, including comments made
    during their tea-breaks.

For those of us in North America, Channel 4 is a TV network in the
United Kingdom. They stream at channel4.com, but you have to sign up
first, and provide a physical address in the UK or Ireland. I don't
know whether they'll accept a fake address. Try postcode SW1A 1AA.

This reminds me vaguely of the famous Ayn Rand play "The Night of January 16th". Rand wrote the play which present both sides of the case in a
fictional murder trial, and the production gimmick is that members of the
jury are recruited each night to serve as the jury. The story is written
to present both sides of the case equally, so the verdict is based on the
vote of the audience members chosen for the jury for each night's
performance. The actors learn lines for three possible endings - guilty,
not guilty or hung jury. This seems like a similar concept.

Since every TV in the UK is subject to an annual license (licence) fee,
it's unlikely that a fake address, or even a real address that is already paying a licence fee, would work.

Are those who pay, but are on vacation or away for work not entitled to
    watch the stream?

We need the address of someone who is not watching tv the next 4 four
nights, maybe he's traveling, or sleeping.

Why not just use Parliament? 10 Downing Street etc. That's certainly a
    valid address.

We cover the world here although most are from the US. The original
    post was just fine.

I did search for "The Jury" and found found several TV series with that
title. Britbox seems to have one so that may match the posting
