• Non-profit members' inspection limits

From Leonard S.@21:1/5 to All on Wed Nov 15 16:36:59 2023
A (Tennessee) non-profit organization’s bylaws include a provision allowing its members to inspect its “books, records, and papers”. Its financial statements are prepared by a contracted management company which is also responsible for collecting
and depositing the dues. Would it be reasonable for a member to request a direct inspection of the organization’s banking accounts in “read-only” mode?

It certainly doesn't hurt to ask. Whether someone will be entitled to
that information will depend on exactly what the bylaws say, exactly
what "membership" means for that specific nonprofit, and what state law
says. Normally it's the state's Attorney General who has the right to
    look into that information.
