• International cases, assistance and the death penalty

    With regards to the Lockerbie suspect, and teh US insistence on retaining
    the barbaric death penalty, what would/are the issues about an
    abolitionist country (i.e. Scotland) becoming involved in a case that may result in it ?

    This is a hypothetical as I have just read the suspect will not face the
    death penalty.

    ISTR there are cases where Canada won't extradite if the death penalty is
    a possibility >

    To my shame I have no idea what or if the UK position is. (Although it
    would unsurprise me to learn it was devoid of any moral backbone).

    AFAIK there have been Canadian cases where a non-citizen has been
    extradited to the US and faced the death penalty but it bounces back and
    forth
