HP used LIF formatting with their workstations. I had an expensive data acquisition package (HP-85869A) which was supplied on multiple 3.5"
floppies. When the workstation gave out, I got a PC and updated the software to the HP-85869PC.
The 85869PC software was supplied on DOS formatted 3.5" 1.44MB floppies. The PC software runs in HP Basic for Windows (which has to be loaded into the standard PC first). As a part of the loading, the PC software needs to read some of the LIF format disks from the "A" version.
HP includes a little loader / translator which allows you to just stick the LIF disk into the PC DOS disk drive and read the disk. The translated file
is then stored in DOS format on your PC's hard drive.
I don't know what or how they do it, but the PC definitely can read the LIF disks. And that utility is part of the HP-85869PC application.

    Hi Kevin,
I poked around on the Agilent site, but could not find any
    downloads for the 16500C. ???

As to LIF formatting - I hadn't thought of that. Maybe I
could install an HPIB card into my computer, hook up
the 16500C, and upload the files through the bus.

I seem to remember the floppy being one of the bits that was
replaced when our 16500B's were upgraded to C's. I'm sure it'll
read/write DOS format floppies. If you have the Ethernet interface
option then you could FTP into it too. (Maybe no help if you've
not got any software on it yet, though. ;-) I've only ever used
HPIB to attach a printer, I doubt you can load software over
    it (but might be wrong).

    Regards,
    Mike.

I think last week someone was looking for the same here.
They found something on Agilent's Website. One question, how
do you plan to use a DOS formated Disc on the LIF formatted
drives in the 16500 ? Maybe the 16500C's drives are DOS
    formatted, I don't know ? I know HP's older instruments
were not DOS compatabile. Take Care.

P.S. Let me know what you find, I am curious what you come
    up with.
I work in a calibration lab too.
