A man has been arrested after allegedly flying 2,000 miles to a
different state to have sex with a horse.

When Michael Crawford arrived in Arizona to meet a 'horse owner'
he'd been in contact with, he was greeted instead by the local
    sheriff's department.

It came after police set up a sting.

The 68-year-old, from Pennsylvania, allegedly booked the round
trip of 4,347 miles to Phoenix, Arizona, after placing an advert
online and getting a response from someone who he thought was a
    horse owner.

In actual fact, the 'horse owner' was an undercover officer.

Maricopa County Sheriff‘s Office animal crimes department was
suspicious when it saw the advert and launched an investigation
    in October.

It included speaking to Crawford online and on the phone,
according to AZ Family, and uncovering his alleged longstanding
sexual interest in horses, which included travelling to meet
with owners who were happy to allow him access to their animals.

Following the arrest, Sheriff Joe Arpaio said: "Perversion has
    reached a new level."

He revealed that Crawford had reportedly communicated with his
undercover man that he had bought a non-refundable plane ticket
to Phoenix and would have with him five shirts which he wanted
    the horse to urinate on.

The shirts would then be posted home, where he would wear them
    to arouse himself in future.

However, Crawford was arrested by deputies when he landed and
taken to jail, stated Sheriff Arpaio.

"I take this crime seriously. It is part of my office's fight
against animal abuse. These animals are not meant to be sex toys
    for the perverted."

According to Sheriff Arpaio, the emails, phone calls, postings
and a conversation about a meeting with a posse volunteer and
his mini horse are all to be used to confirm Crawford's
intentions of committing bestiality, which is a Class 6 felony.

In Arizona, a Class 6 felony is the lowest ranking felony
    offense.
