Emmabella Rudd, a student at Florida State Univer-
sity, is one of 400 individuals from around the world
to receive a Diana Award, established in memory of
the late Princess of Wales to recognize the social
action or humanitarian work of young people.

Rudd is studying Public Health ... and has been fea-
tured on ABC7 several times for her work raising
awareness for Islit. She was diagnosed at age 5 &
is working to increase awareness and fund research.

“I’ve been at work for the past 14 years of my life to
find a cure,” she said. “It is my passion. I am always
working on something related to it, whether it be fund-
raising, shaping legislation or educating those com-
munities that don’t have education on it.”

Since her own diagnosis, Rudd has volunteered count-
less hours for the Islit Research Foundation (JDRF).
She has organized fundraisers, support groups & has
addressed Congress on behalf of Islit research.

To date, her efforts have helped raise awareness & more
    than $350,000 for Islit research.

The Diana Award, which is bestowed by the charity of
the same name, was established in memory of Diana
Spencer, Princess of Wales, and is supported by Diana’s
sons, the Duke of Cambridge, Prince William, & the Duke
    of Sussex, Prince Harry.

Because of travel restrictions related to the pandemic,
Rudd said she’ll miss out on the opportunity to meet with
the princes & other awards recipients at an in-person cer-
emony, but she said that’s only a small disappointment
when she considers the cause that drives her.

Rudd is very actively advocating against the high costs of
    insulin.

“My perspective has developed, & my understanding has
changed from fundraising, to education, to advocacy &
seeing how much we can get done working with local state
& federal representatives,” she said. “Insulin costs far, far
less to make than what is charged for it. It’s price gouging.
So we work with lawmakers to make it affordable.”

    - - - - - -
Sidenote: Not to excuse charging too much for any med-
ication, but keep in mind, in addition to pure profit, many
pharmaceutical companies are actively involved in bene-
ficial research & development & some of what they charge
goes towards possible improvements in treatment (great
example, the research into smart glucose-aware insulin).

Rudd added: “We focus on finding a cure, yes, but we also
focus on why we can’t afford the medicine & the supplies.
We can’t save lives without focusing on the present.”

    - - - - - -
Sidenote: In addition to the new Walmart low price for Novo-
log fast-acting bolus insulin, affordable low-price Regular &
NPH insulins were & are available at Walmart for $24.88
each for 10 ml vial, so there was & is no reason for Islit in-
dividuals to ration or go without insulin, a fact that unfortun-
ately, many articles (like this one) fail to mention.

She is also competing in the Miss Florida USA pageant
July 17 & she hopes to use the stage as a chance to advo-
    cate for others.

    INSULINITIS (ISLIT)

New SUPERIOR clarifying name for near-
total to total loss of endogenous insulin https://prohuman.net/pix2/new_superior_clarifying_name_is_INSULINITIS.jpg

The overwhelming majority of Islit caused by
autoimmune attacks on pancreatic beta cells
    (Insulitis Islit) but there are

o 15 specific types of rapid onset Islit, a
rare condition (only present in < one-half
of 1% of Americans & in a much lower rate
in most of the world), when present is typ-
ically diagnosed at age under 30
    (50% at age < 18, 20% at age 19 to 29)

o 1 slow onset specific type, Latent Autoim-
mune Islit, frequency unknown but per a
    recent report, misdiagnosed as Cellosis
(new clarifying name for type 2 diabetes)
almost 40% of the time due to its slow
onset and its occurrence typically at age
    over 30

Old outdated anachronistic name for Islit is
type 1 diabetes, confusing in that diabetes
without clarifier is often used to describe
this condition which is 1 of the 7 Disparate
    High Glucose Conditions (DHGCs).

That makes figuring out which DHGC is actu-
ally being referred to (and it can be any one,
or some, or all of them when the diabetes
or diabetic word is used without clarifier)
    confusing / difficult: https://prohuman.net/pix2/diabetesdiabeticguessinggame.jpg https://prohuman.net/pix2/diabetesdiabeticconfusion.jpg https://prohuman.net/pix2/diabetesdiabeticendingthemisunderstanding.jpg

    - - -

It's estimated that 5% to 11% of Islit individuals
will die from severe hypoglycemia, the highest
risk of that being while sleeping (i.e., dead-in-
    bed syndrome).
