Glucose-aware insulin, a goal that has been
aspired to by many companies over the years,
I rarely read any articles about progress in this
area, & the articles are reluctant to call smart
glucose-aware insulin a 'cure', despite its pur-
ported capability to avoid hypoglycemia -and-
hyperglycemia.
Here's a bit of research on a synthetic insulin
hinge being worked on by Michael A. Weiss,
MD, a prominent professor at Indiana University
School of Medicine.

The article mentions glucose levels 70 mg/dl as a
'turn-off' point -and- 180 mg/dl as a 'turn-on' point,
but actually, in folks with a fully functional pancreas,
insulin 'turns off' at 83 mg/dl & assorted endogenous
hormonal reactions transpire to prevent hypoglycemia.
Also, endogenous insulin responds immediately to
glucose rises at sub-100 mg/dl & prevents almost all
glucose rises > 140 mg/dl, never allowing glucose lev-
els to go above 180 mg/dl, per the following post of
153 individuals who have fully functional pancreases
(i.e., no Disparate High Glucose Condition), ages 7 to
80 ...

... here's what their glucose levels were with up to 10
days of wearing a 'blinded' Dexcom G6 continuous
glucose monitor (CGM), i.e., the 153 individuals did
not view their glucose levels:
% of glucose levels > 180 mg/dL ... 0%
% of glucose levels 160.1 to 180 mg/dl ... 3/10ths of 1%
% of glucose levels 140.1 to 160 mg/dl ... 2.1%
% of glucose levels 70 to 140 mg/dl ... 96%
% of glucose levels 70 to 120 mg/dl ... 89%
% of glucose levels 60 to 69.9 mg/dl ... 1.1%
% of glucose levels 54 to 59.9 mg/dl ... 2/10ths of 1%
% of glucose levels < 54 mg/dl ... 0%
