I encountered a similar situation with Walmart many years back. The situation occurred because the check I wrote bounced and when they tried to contact me I had moved. I didn't notice the bounced check because a tax return hit my account immediately
after and, admittedly, I wasn't balancing my checkbook for a few months. When they sent a certified notice, someone named Cindy signed for it and I never got it. Long story short, I ended up paying an exorbitant amount in fees and fines for a $30 check
but that was after they made several attempts to contact me. Leaves me wondering if part of this story is missing.
