• Beware of Willow, the disposable underware people

From briang@panix.com@21:1/5 to All on Tue Aug 21 17:54:20 2018
In late July, I ordered their "free" trial of mens' underwear. Their
deal is that, after your "free trial", which costs about $5, they will
start periodic shipments. On 8/6, having tried and not liked the fit of
their product, I sent them e-mail saying I didn't like them and not to
    send me any more.

On 8/8, I got e-mail saying my shipment was underway. I sent return e-mail saying that I didn't want them, and to cancel the shipment. I never received
a reply to either of these e-mails.

On 8/10, the package arrived via UPS and I refused it as unordered merchandise.

On 8/13, my card was charged about $60. I telephoned, this time, asking
for a refund. They said I had to wait until they had the package back
in their hands. The next day, they called back and said they had it and the refund was in progress. A couple of days later, my card was refunded $36.

Today I started calling about the rest of the $60. Their bottom line is that they are refunding all but a $9 "re-stocking fee".

Neither Customer Support nor their Supervisor appears able and willing to refund that $9. They go on and on about how their website - which I have never seen - has cancellation and refund instructions. They have several different names, including Willow, rewovenclothing.com, and some others, so I don't even know what website I should have guessed to visit.

BEWARE: If you deal with them, they are quite eager and willing to charge you for their mistakes.

    Beware of ANY offer that

Has a shipping or handling fee for "free" merchandise

Includes periodic shipments after a "free trial"

Requires a credit card for "free" merchandise

Also, print out the Terms & Conditions page (preferably to PDF, not
paper) from the web site when you order from a new [to you] web site.
Print out the Contact Info page, so you have mailing address and phone
number as well as e-mail address.

Finally, shipping documents often contain return instructions (e.g.,
return address, need for traceable shipping [FedEx or UPS], restocking
fee, etc). Look to see if they are the same as what may be indicated on
    the web site.

I think all those "Free" offers are shams. The first one might be
free, after that the screw you monthly by charging your credit card.
You got lucky to lose only a few $$. Some people keep getting charged
month after month. As far as my opinion of all these Free offer
    companies: They're crooks.

FWIW, Freedompop actually DOES give you free stuff, but you have to jump through hoops to make sure it happens. We have both the free-data SIM
and free-data hotspot and both work nicely when you can get a
connection. 2 (or maybe 5) MB/month is more than we generally need, so
    I'm happy.
