• Sharp TV power problem

From Brian Gordon@21:1/5 to All on Wed May 30 17:00:27 2018
We have a Sharp flatscreen TV, about 2 years old. Often, recently, when it has been powered off and is powered back on, it goes into a strange state. The power indicator, an LED that is blue when on, red when off, and blinking red while starting up, goes into a dance where it blinks 4 times, goes off for about 4 blinks worth of time, and repeats indefinitely.

We used to be able to fix it by pulling the plug, waiting several minutes, and plugging it back in. That no longer works.

Sharp, of course, says it is too old for them to comment on, and to take it back to the store and get them to fix it. The store, Best Buy, says they can ship it off to their TV repair center and, for about the price of a replacement, look at it.

Any guesses of how we might get past this?

Nope. Same situation I was in last year. But in my case the failed unit was a Panasonic. Original warranty is expired; no service contract or extended warranty; time to buy a new one. Hope the place you buy the new one will take the old one, or you'
ll probably have to pay to dispose of it.

I cant answer your question, but repost this to
"sci.electronics.design". There are some electronics experts on there.

If Sharp thinks a 2 year old tv is "too old" I'll make sure to never buy
    any of their products.
