I plead guilty to kicking back in my recliner to watch TV and snack, which leaves me with food stains that don't wash out.

A look at search results suggests that stains can be pre-soaked in:

1. boric acid and detergent at ration of 1:2, or Boraxo.
2. white venegar
3. salt, lemon juice, ?

If you're straight arrow, you scrape off food right away and treat stains quickly. Unfortunately, my stains are dried into cotton fabrick and resist hard-water washing.
