Incredibly, that figure of $200 is not much of an exaggeration - if at all. (For those who don't know, it's a family of four in the strip.)
If I were to cut dessert out of my budget entirely, I'd be spending $100 a month for myself. But, of course, most parents won't do that to their little kids.
So if Diane goes shopping exactly four times a month and includes dessert or other junk foods, there's a good chance she'd have to spend at least $150 per trip.
(Of course, the average American household wastes quite a lot of food - but we don't know if that's the case here or not.)
