• WfW in virtual machines

From me@privacy.net@21:1/5 to All on Wed Nov 23 18:52:51 2022
Nowadays it's getting more and more difficult to install WfW in
VirtualBox or VMWare. Plain installation (mostly) works but after
setting up networks the guest system can't start anymore. Does
    anybody know about a workaround?

I still have a functional WFW 3.11 machine; a Gateway 2000 from circa
1994. I don't use virtual box or VMWare; I've always used actual
hardware. I still have a collection of "ancient" PC's in the cellar.
It's more fun, in my opinion, to use actual hardware.

Have you tried DOSBox? Is that the same thing as VirtualBox/VMWare?

I'd like to create and publish a specialised VM with WfW. I'd
prefer the above two software because they are widespread and easy
to use. I wanted to try DOSBox-X, PCEM, 86Box and Bochs but cannot
install them on my Ubuntu 21.4. The developers do not provide .deb
packages for Ubuntu, there are lots of dependency problems and I
really don't want to recompile such big programs. QEMU would work
but it's considered difficult to use, especially the networking part.
