Hi everyone,
Over the past year, our Java project has faced significant challenges
with stabilizing and re-keywording Java packages on both ARM and x86 architectures. These issues, including failing tests and jar
miscompiles, have placed a considerable burden on the volunteers
maintaining the project. As a member of the architecture team, I believe
this situation is unsustainable.
To better understand the impact, I’d like to gather information on
whether Java packages are being used on your systems, specifically if
you're running x86 or ARM architectures. You can check for Java
libraries by running the following command::
qlist -I | grep dev-java
This will list the Java packages installed on your system, and from
there, you can identify the primary consumers of Java in your
environment. Please reply to this email with top level consumers (which packages are part of @world package set).
While I can't guarantee continued support for Java on x86/ARM due to the current volume of issues, knowing that there is no need for support will
help us make more informed decisions and ease the process of addressing
these concerns.
