Hello All,
I wanted to provide an update on the released news about Gentoo being selected as part of the Google Summer of Code or GSoC for another year.
We have a core group of admins and mentors who are working on talking to the students and making project recommendations. The application process will start in a few days, on April 4, and continue until April 19.
We can always use mentors if you are interested. We already have a group of mentors but can always use more mentors in the primary or secondary capacity. If you are interested, please let
soc-admins@gentoo.org know of your interest.
At this time, we do not know the number of students/contributors allocated to us, but as we go through the selected proposals, we will have a better idea.
Also, please consider that our potential students (contributors) and those that will be selected will be interacting with the Gentoo development community. Some of them are developers that are just starting out with Gentoo. Please be patient with them as
they learn the ins and outs of Gentoo and work with the projects. Also, please keep in mind that even those not selected might decide to join Gentoo as developers in the future.
