    mail --file=/var/mail/[user]

    works, but I would rather have it configured in Thunderbird or Gmail.

    How do you configure "~/.forward"?

    I had some problems deleting mail with "net-mail/mailutils" program.

    You're welcome.

    A simple .forward works in most cases. Though it may run into typical forwarding problems (SPF, DKIM, etc.). But you're probably fine with
    what you're doing.
